Nicole Ari Parker is an American stage and film actor who was famous for her portrayal as the spirited attorney Teri Joseph on the Showtime series Soul Food. Following her marriage the actress is now known as Nikki Kodjoe. The talent she displayed in her acting was apparent from childhood. Contractor studied and became a dancer of classical style in Toronto. She was a student at the Etobicoke School of the Arts, a high school for the arts that was specifically designed to be a school that taught not just dance but also theatre. Contractor was inspired to pursue acting more seriously at the age of 16 following almost 10 years dancing. After she had completed high school, she received an all-inclusive scholarship to the University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto she completed a Masters in Theatre and also double majored with Psychology and Sociology. Contractor was offered the lead character in Pericles after a one-year stint in University. She was a part of the audition for the role at Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and was awarded. Her work was highly acclaimed in the 92 plays she appeared in. She won an award in 2002, which was awarded to the Best Production of the Year by Canadian critics. The conservatory in Stratford accepts eight men, four women as well as a few additional people to take a 20 weeks crash course. The role was secured for Contractor in the next series of plays She was also offered Hermia's part for the role of Hermia A Midsummer Night's Dream.
