Nicole Ari Parker is an American stage and film actor who was famous for her portrayal as the spirited attorney Teri Joseph on the Showtime series Soul Food. Following her marriage the actress is now known as Nikki Kodjoe. The talent she displayed in her acting was apparent from childhood. An Maryland high-school competition awarded her with the award for best actress. Her acting career began after she was employed by the Washington Ballet Company as well as the theater. Contractor was born from Mumbai in India and grew up in Nigeria through the age of seven. She'd been exposed to many different travels and other cultures since a young age. The boarding school she attended was in London from seven to nine, after which her family relocated into Toronto, Canada, where she lived for the bulk of her childhood and young adulthood. Contractor studied and became a dancer of classical style in Toronto. She was a student at the Etobicoke School of the Arts, a high school for the arts that was specifically designed to be a school that taught not just dance but also theatre. Contractor was inspired to pursue acting more seriously at the age of 16 following almost 10 years dancing. After she had completed high school, she received an all-inclusive scholarship to the University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto she completed a Masters in Theatre and also double majored with Psychology and Sociology. Contractor was offered the lead character in Pericles after a one-year stint in University. She was a part of the audition for the role at Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and was awarded. Her work was highly acclaimed in the 92 plays she appeared in. She won an award in 2002, which was awarded to the Best Production of the Year by Canadian critics. The conservatory in Stratford accepts eight men, four women as well as a few additional people to take a 20 weeks crash course.
